Seattle’s proposed deep-bore tunnel is important to cargo movement.

The Port of Seattle Commission voted Tuesday to endorse a Memorandum of Agreement under which it will contribute $300 million to construction of a deep-bore tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The agreement with the state Transportation Department outlines the Port’s responsibilities to the $3.1 billion tunnel project. From a Port news release: The Alaskan Way Viaduct is one of only three north-south corridors for the Puget Sound region and its replacement must be able to move goods and travelers efficiently through port facilities. Today’s vote is an important step forward for the program.
