Kuehne+Nagel in 2014 became the largest non-vessel operating common carrier serving the overall U.S. import market, knocking longtime leader Expeditors International out of the top spot, according to PIERS, a sister product of JOC.com within IHS.

K+N, the Swiss-based third-party logistics provider that is the world’s largest ocean freight forwarder, handled 431,991 TEUs of U.S. import volumes in 2014, overtaking Expeditors which handled 402,667 TEUs. Expeditors had been the top import NVO for years but since 2011 has seen K+N gradually close the gap and then overtake it last year. K+N’s U.S. NVOCC business operates under the name Blue Anchor Line.
