Striking port workers in Sydney say they will defy the industrial umpire’s order to cease industrial action and return to work.

Hutchison Ports workers have been picketing ports in Sydney and Brisbane since Friday in protest against the company’s sacking of almost 100 workers by email last week.

Bob Carnegie, from the MUA’s Queensland branch, said a protest would continue at the Port of Brisbane.

“We will stay the length that’s required to bring justice to those who’ve been wronged and we’re just going to wait it out, fight it out,” he said.
