The longshore union’s broiling feud with the Port of Portland took another step Wednesday when the union announced it filed a lawsuit over a public records request the port says will cost $200,000.
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes the quote — which it said equals a rate of $400 per hour to compile the records in question — is too onerous. So on July 25, the union filed a lawsuit in Multnomah County circuit court claiming several violations of the Oregon Public Records Act.
“The port’s lack of transparency is inexcusable, especially at a time when its deals with overseas companies have resulted in attacks on American working conditions and created unrest among its longtime labor force,” said Leal Sundet, ILWU Coast Committeeman and a member of ILWU Local 8 in Portland.
