APMT doubling Liberia terminal capacity as demand rockets

Expecting a 27 percent jump in container volume for this year, APM Terminals is spending to $34.5 million over the next two years to double capacity at its facility at the Port of Monrovia, the only Liberian container gateway.

Although the Ebola epidemic in 2014 and 2015 hurt the economy and the slowdown in China bodes poorly for the commodity exporting country, the terminal operator arm of Maersk Group is already seeing a rebound in demand. Continue at JOC

APMT gains toehold in Turkey with new container terminal

APM Terminals hopes that the opening of its Turkish container terminal at Petkim Port,near İzmir on Turkey’s west coast, in early 2016 will be just the first phase of its expansion in the country.

APM has agreed a 28-year lease of the terminal with Petlim, the Petkim subsidiary set up for the port redevelopment project. The first phase of the new terminal–with a 350 meter (1,1778 foot) quay, a depth of 16 meters (52.5 feet) and an annual capacity 450,000 twenty-foot equivalent units — will open in first quarter 2016. The second phase, which will double available quay length and raise annual capacity to 1.5 million TEUs, is scheduled to come online at the next year. Continue at JOC
