Although the July 1 deadline for contract negotiations between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association certainly resulted in some diversion of cargo to ports on the U.S. East Coast and in Canada, West Coast container volumes are still up noticeably compared to last year.

Containerized imports moving through West Coast ports in June were up 10 percent from June 2013, according to statistics published on the PMA website. Exports increased 3 percent, and total container volume moving through West Coast ports was up 7 percent compared to June 2013.
