The New Year augurs well for Wilhelmshaven: Maersk Line, the biggest shipping line in the world, has confirmed that it will call at Germany’s only deep-water port with a third scheduled service, its ME1 service, on the Europe–Middle East route. The rotation is the third scheduled service that Maersk Line intends to route via Wilhelmshaven in 2015, alongside the two 2M Alliance services.

In Q1 2015, the newly established 2M Alliance between Maersk Line and MSC-Mediterranean Shipping Company will start two regular services in Wilhelmshaven, so that in future the port will be served by three regular main ship services. Added to these is a still unknown number of feeder lines that are responsible for onward transportation.

EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven is Germany’s only deep-water container terminal with a water depth of 18 metres. The world’s largest container vessels can access the port at all times around the clock, independently of tidal fluctuations. This saves the shipping lines time and consequently reduces costs.
