The Port of Seattle hit a record container count for 2010 of the equivalent of 2.1 million 20-foot containers. It’s the first time the port has broken the two million container barrier.

A key contributor to Seattleā€™s 2010 strength was the mid-2009 move of Maersk/CMA CGM, a partnership among several ocean carriers, from Tacoma to Seattle.

That group also increased its ship size in mid-2010, as did Hanjin, a Korean carrier calling Seattle, said a port spokesman.
