Police patrolling the Port of Los Angeles have a new tool to help improve surveillance at one of the nation’s busiest ports. A mobile technology company announced Thursday it will provide officers with software that will enable them to capture live video using their cell phone cameras. Julia Kirwan, a port police official, said the mobile cameras are critical for a force tasked with protecting a massive complex and 46 miles of waterfront. The software is part of a $4.2 million initiative to help port police improve the way they manage critical incidents.
