Our condolences go out to Mr. Gabriel’s family, friends and colleagues. An injury to one is an injury to all.

NIGERIA: Tragedy struck this week at Terminal ‘C’ of Tincan Island Port being operated by Port and Cargo Handling Services Limited, when an accident claimed the life of a dockworker and left two others seriously injured.

President of Dockworkers branch of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, Adewale Adeyaju, said: “The workers were discharging iron rods when suddenly some of them fell on the workers at 2 a.m. this morning.”

“Mr. Moses Gabriel died on the spot, Haruna Mohammed sustained injury on the head, while Ruben Ugbaji had one of his legs broken. As we speak, while Mohammed has been discharged from the hospital they were rushed to, Ugbaji is still at the hospital.”

Lamenting the incident, the President of the Dockworkers said the union was concerned with the frequent industrial accidents in the terminal leading to loss of lives and called on the Nigeria Port Authority, NPA, to live up to its responsibility by ensuring that terminal operators provide the minimum safety and health as required.
