Shipping agent Kevin Pitcher said they did not actually board the ship to serve the writ. ‘The original writ was attached to the hull of the vessel by tape,’ Pitcher said. ‘The crew lowered a bucket over the side, and the copy of the document was placed in it for the captain to peruse.’
A New Zealand High Court official confirmed yesterday afternoon that the court order impounding the log ship was served around midday.
The New Giant has been at anchor in Poverty Bay since last weekend.
The vessel had been scheduled to dock and load logs here early this week, but the Eastland Group denied it entry when it was found the ship’s owners, South Korean company STX, had been placed in receivership.
