France has ratified the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, making it the 35th International Labour Office member state and the 13th European Union member state to ratify the convention, which sets out decent working and living conditions for seafarers, while creating conditions of fair competition for shipowners.

With France’s ratification, 35 ILO members representing 68.8 percent of the world gross tonnage of ships have now ratified the MLC, 2006, which will enter into force on Aug. 20, 2013.
