NOTE: The following news predates this week’s presidential elections in which the front runner to replace Alan Garcia opposes the Muelle Norte concession.

The concession of the Muelle Norte terminal at Peru’s Callao port shows that Peru has the world’s confidence despite the upcoming presidential elections, Peruvian President Alan Garcia said.

Dutch-based port operator APM Terminals expects to close out a concession contract for the Muelle Norte terminal at Peru’s Callao port over the next month or two, the company’s senior VP and head of new terminals, Peder Sondergaard has said.

“APM Terminals’ growth and investment strategy is focused on the fast-growing parts of the world. Peru is the fourth biggest economy in South America and a strong market which has grown solidly, so this fits well into our strategy,” the executive added.
