Longshoreman injured in North Charleston

The container significantly damaged the driver’s compartment of the vehicle, North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic said. Fire crews provided initial care of the injured man, she said.

A shipping container fell onto a truck at the State Ports Authority’s Terminal this morning, injuring a longshoreman, authorities said.

The injured worker, a 63-year-old man, was transported to Medical University Hospital in stable condition, Charleston County EMS Director Don Lundy said.

The shipping container fell and struck the yard truck he was driving and the port’s gantry crane around 9:30 a.m., according to SPA spokeswoman Allison Skipper.

The longshoreman was transported to the hospital with complaints of back and neck pain, Skipper said.
