From KING 5:

This week, the Northwest Seaport Alliance got the go ahead from the Federal Maritime Commission. The commission signed off on the alliance on Tuesday, and it became effective as of Thursday.

Critics of the ports have complained for decades that Seattle and Tacoma spent too much time poaching each other’s business. Instead, critics say the ports should focus on bigger issues including consolidating shipping companies, operating larger vessels, and increased competition from Canada.

The final agreement is scheduled for signing on August 4 at 10 a.m. at the Federal Way City Hall.
