Workers at Australian ports were scheduled to pause at midday as a mark of respect for a colleague who died at the port of Brisbane on Saturday afternoon. P&O Automotive and General Stevedoring worker Brad Gray was killed when he was struck by a forklift carrying a waste bin while working the 1991-built general cargo ship, Pacific Explorer. The Maritime Union of Australia said Mr Gray’s death was the fifth on Australian docks since 2003. The union said it would step-up a campaign to have stevedores meet performance-based safety standards.
