MUA Linesmen

Linesmen at Ausport Marine who are also Maritime Union of Australia members are worried that terminal operator and stevedore DP World Australia will take over the linesman’s job function, which would affect 250 linesmen, reported Lloyd’s List Australia.

From an article titled ‘MUA linesmen members worried about stevedore job-threat ‘ in Lloyd’s List Australia:

Ausport Marine linesman and MUA delegate Jamie Armstrong has released a statement with the support of the MUA that DP World Australia (DPWA) would “like to take the linesman’s jobs and do the mooring and unmooring of vessels.”

“They tried to start it up in Botany but only through the militancy and camaraderie of DP World Sydney Branch that they backed off, at least until the next EBA negotiations,” Mr Armstrong said.

“Greedy global company DP World is trying to take over our jobs,” said another linesman, Ryan Armstrong, adding, “this is a big business trying to take over our livelihoods. We need to stand together and fight back.”
