Long Beach Breakwater

From the Daily Breeze:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will spend $14 million on repairs to the damaged San Pedro and Long Beach breakwaters, U.S. Rep. Janice Hahn’s office announced Tuesday.

Hahn, whose district is based in the harbor area, called for the funding in December after a survey of the 2.1-mile-long breakwater from Cabrillo Beach to the Angels Gate Lighthouse revealed four major and 12 significant damage areas.

The allocation was part of the 2016 civil works plan outlined by the Army Corps of Engineers this week.

Hahn, who is concerned El Niño storms could breach the battered breakwall and potentially disrupt business at the Port of Los Angeles, called the news “a huge relief.”
