The Federal Maritime Commission’s chairman told an audience of trucking industry professionals Thursday the nonprofit organization formed to reduce congestion around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach could benefit from an outside audit.

Commission chairman Mario Cordero called for the audit of PierPass, the organization in question, while participating in a panel discussion at a California Trucking Association gathering at Old Ranch Country Club. Cordero has said the trucking industry’s concerns need to be given more attention in attempts to improve the flow of goods moving in and out of ports and during Thursday’s meeting, he questioned whether PierPass needs to offer more transparency toward local trucking firms.
