From Prensa Latina:

Panamanians celebrated this week the opening of the Panama Canal. It was inaugurated on August 15, 1914, with the crossing of the steam Ancon through the same locks where currently navigate modern vessels.

Under the suggestive slogan ‘A magical day’, the Canal authorities intend to open to people the Miraflores visitors center with free entrance, making a particular emphasis on the family, to show in films and conferences the Panamanians’ pride: their channel.

The 80-km route was used so far by more than one million ships of different sizes. The trans-oceanic journey across the isthmus save them time and fuel, as in eight hours they complete a journey that would take weeks using other directions.
