Lloyd’s Register has signed a contract with COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard in China and Maersk Line in Denmark for the classification of the shipping carrier’s seven new 3,600 teu containerships.

The vessels will be built to Danish Flag and have a length of 200 meters and a breadth of 35.2 meters, according to Maersk.

Lloyd’s Register’s Rules and Regulations will govern the construction of the vessels, which will have Ice Class 1A (Finnish-Swedish ice class). Delivery is expected to take place from April to November 2017.

This is the first time in the Chinese shipyard’s 11-year history that it will build containerships, and the project gives Lloyd’s the opportunity to continue its long cooperation with the shipyard.
