Excerpts from the Press-Telegram:

Navis LLC, an Oakland-based firm that develops software for the shipping industry, announced its N4 operating system has been deployed at Long Beach Container Terminal. … Navis’ operating system went online in late May, said Andy Barrons, the software company’s chief marketing officer. The company was not cleared to announce the N4 system was online until this month.

As explained by Barrons, the N4 system is designed to help manage such issues as the unloading of cargo, ensuring shipping containers are properly prepared for import or export or preventing such problems as containers bearing food being placed near those containing hazardous materials.

For now, the new software helps Long Beach Container Terminal manage operations at Pier F, a 102-acre terminal where seven cargo-moving cranes are in place.
