On a two-day tour along the Columbia River and Oregon’s northern coast, state legislators stopped in Astoria and Warrenton Friday to hear plans for expanding Astoria’s port capabilities, discuss dredging and Warrenton’s levee system.

In Astoria, the group convened and toured Westerlund Log Handlers’ operation at the Port of Astoria. The tour followed Wednesday’s decision by the Port of Astoria Commission to grant Westerlund a volume-based tariff reduction that would give the company incentive to bring more ships each month to Pier 1.
