The port of Los Angeles will spend almost 40 percent of its $1.1 billion budget for the upcoming year on infrastructure projects, harbor officials announced Thursday.

The almost $400 million in capital improvement expenditures include:

  • $99 million for improvements to support automation at the terminals and the construction of a facility to support rail transportation directly on the docks.
  • $41.5 million in construction at the China Shipping terminal, including an expanded wharf.
  • $96 million for power stations that will help electrify operations at the APM, APL, Evergreen, Yang Ming and China Shipping terminals that currently are diesel-fueled.
