Al Moro

Al Moro, who is expected to hold the position for as long as six months, said he would not seek the permanent chief position and is ”an engineer at heart.”

The man who now oversees the Port of Long Beach’s biggest capital improvement projects will take the reins of the nation’s second busiest seaport next month.

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on Friday named Chief Harbor Engineer Al Moro the interim executive director of the Port of Long Beach.

A 16-year port employee, Moro will take the helm while the board conducts its search for a permanent replacement for outgoing head director Christopher Lytle, who will leave in mid-July to run the Port of Oakland.
