Congress usually passes a new Farm Bill every five years, but last year it only passed a one-year extension of the 2008 Farm Bill. U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre, who represents much of Southeastern North Carolina, said the 2012 Farm Bill “got caught in unfortunate political posturing.”

McIntyre sent letters to the House Republican and Democratic leadership urging them to allow a floor vote on the Farm Bill. He said the Senate plans to “mark up” a new Farm Bill this month and the House will consider a new bill in May.
