Despite a clerical workers strike at half its terminals, imports and exports at the Port of Long Beach rose more than 20 percent last month, thanks to two major shipping lines that recently added services, port officials said Thursday.

After months of mostly declining growth, the number of imported containers in November jumped 20.2 percent to 278,534 TEUs, or 20-foot equivalent container units – the highest November volume in five years.

Meanwhile, exports climbed 24.6 percent from the same time in 2011, reporting 138,312 TEUs, the second highest November volume in five years, according to the port.
