WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) released the following statement in response to strike negotiations between the workers of ILWU Local 63’s Office Clerical Unit and the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach:

“It is crucial that an agreement be reached soon, most importantly for the laborers who have continued to work for more than two years without a contract,” said Sanchez. “Last week I led a letter from the California delegation to the chief negotiators, urging them to take quick action on a resolution. The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach make up the largest port complex in our nation, and having good workers sit idle is hurting our nation’s trade routes. It is my hope that both sides can reach a resolution so our economy can move forward.”

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 47th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and parts of Fullerton in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces and a senior member of the Committee on Homeland Security. Rep. Sanchez is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Joint Economic Committee.
