SSA Marine, a California-based stevedoring services company, was recently fined $70,000 by the federal government’s safety agency after a worker was killed while on the job.

The federal government’s workplace safety agency stated that the worksite where an employee was crushed to death by a shipping container had exposed workers to several hazards. Specifically, representatives found that the firm had left employees at risks of crushing hazards, failed to provide accident prevention courses, hadn’t recorded injuries properly and other problems.

The local OSHA leadership said that making the right changes could end up saving lives in the long run.
