The Port of Astoria sits on a $200,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security meant for security improvements.

“I’d like to talk with other ports that have them,” said Commissioner Bill Hunsinger, who voiced his displeasure at installing cameras instead of hiring guards.

The commission agreed to hold an executive session to discuss the topic with security professionals and other ports before deciding on a contract. The DHS grant stipulates the Port must set up the system by the end of 2013.
