A longshoreman at the Georgia Ports Authority’s Ocean Terminal was listed in serious condition Thursday at Memorial University Medical Center after falling more than 40 feet into the cargo hold of a ship Wednesday night.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the fall.

Rescuers with Savannah Fire were called to the scene a little before 9 p.m. and found Tyrone Miller, 34, lying in the hold.

Miller was suffering from broken bones but was conscious when he was rescued, according to Savannah Fire spokesman Mark Keller.
