At a hearing of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee, AAPA Chairman of the Board Jerry Bridges, who also serves as executive director of the Virginia Port Authority, testified on the economic importance of seaports.

Witnesses included Peter Peyton, president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Marine Clerks Association. All testimony is available on the Committee website.

Much of the discussion among subcommittee members focused on the need for full utilization of the Harbor Maintenance Tax (HMT) to maintain federal navigation channels.
