Everett has been identified by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a Strategic Recovery Port, in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
Constructing this additional half-mile rail line alongside the shipping terminals at the port of Everett would provide more opportunities for faster recovery from such a disaster impacting Seattle, Tacoma or Olympia, said the DHS.
