Mexican ports

SSA gains Tuxpan on the central Gulf Coast, and already operates several terminals in Mexico -- in Manzanillo and Acapulco on the Pacific Coast, and Progreso and Cozumel on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Port operator SSA Marine won a $300 million contract to build a key port on the Gulf of Mexico to ship containers, steel and cars to Europe, the United States and South America, the company said on Thursday.

Construction on the port in the city of Tuxpan will begin by the end of this year to start operation by 2013, the director of the company’s Mexico unit Francisco Kassian said.

The port will be connected to a new highway being built by Mexican construction company ICA to give it access to central Mexico, the country’s biggest market, Kassian said.
