On July 27, more than 300 longshore workers and their supporters picketed outside the Operating Engineers' Local 701 office in Gladstone, Oregon.

One of Oregon’s largest labor groups has demanded union operating engineers stop taking the jobs of union dock workers at the EGT grain terminal at the Port of Longview.

In a resolution approved Friday morning, the Oregon AFL-CIO executive board voted to “condemn in the strongest way possible the scab labor actions” of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 701, based in Gladstone, Ore.

“This resolution shows, among other things, that EGT is not a friend of labor,” an ILWU spokeswoman said Friday.

Also, the resolution sends a message that the Operating Engineers should respect the jurisdiction of the ILWU, said Kevin Card, AFL-CIO board member and president of the Oregon State Association of Letter Carriers.
