One year has passed, and a contract has not been reached between the union representing 900 clerical workers and a group of 14 shippers and terminal operators at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Negotiations have remained peaceful, but the yearlong struggle to strike up a labor pact has languished as both sides continue to argue over differences in how to deal with health care costs, job security and workplace technology.

Representatives with the clerical unit of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor Employers Association are scheduled to return to the bargaining table July 11.
