APM Terminals is considering investing in a new Baltic Sea port in the Kaliningrad region of Russia, according to Russian government press material.

The press material indicated that the terminal-operating arm of A.P. Moller-Maersk is looking at an investment in the port at Baltiysk for which the total investment budget is seen at over $3.5 billion, Reuters reported.

The press package distributed to correspondents in Moscow did not say how big APM Terminals’ part of the total investment would be if Maersk were to join the project, but said the port would have a handling capacity of 6 million containers per year.
