Millennium is not giving up plans to import coal, just simply delaying the plan, which it estimates would create 70 jobs. Millennium has filed a permit to clean up the extensively contaminated Reynolds Metals site and export 5.7 million tons of coal. In the last month, internal e-mails from Millennium’s parent company, Australia-based Ambre Energy, indicate company executives discussed exporting as much as 20 million or 60 million tons, making it one of the largest terminals on the West Coast.

In its announcement, Millennium’s included endorsements of its plan from a major Longview contractor and the longshore union.
