Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Monday [Jan. 24] signed an agreement aimed at increasing trade with China.

While it’s not a legally binding contract, the pact struck up between Los Angeles and China’s Ministry of Commerce is aimed at examining how the two sides can spur investment and cooperation when dealing with imports and exports.

About 40 percent of all trade between the United States and China comes through the Port of Los Angeles.
