Port of Marseille

In April, about a third of the workers at the Port of Marseille will be transferred to private terminal operators.

The port of Marseilles recorded impressive 2010 cargo-handling figures, despite being subject to a series of strikes throughout the year.

Interestingly, the port authority stated that it was on course for an 8% increase until June, when union dockworker strikes began.

A supervisory board member has called for solidarity between employers and unions as the much-disputed port reform is set to be completed in April. The move will see approximately 450 of the port authority’s 1,500 workforce transferred to private terminal operators.
