Imports are expected to grow 10.5 percent this year through the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, which is less than the 17 percent gain of 2010 but still nearly double the growth forecast for most competing seaports.

The continued rise in imports, which account for roughly 75 percent of all trade handled locally, coupled with strong demand for exports, should keep employment levels growing among the estimated 50,000 longshoremen, mariners, truckers, freight-forwarders and rail workers involved in trade industries around San Pedro Bay.
