South Jersey Port Corp. agreed Tuesday to allow Del Monte Fresh Produce Co. to sublet space inside the Beckett Street Terminal through Dec. 31 despite objections by the International Longshoremen’s Association.

Del Monte vacated the Beckett Street Terminal last month with 10 years remaining on its lease with the South Jersey Port Corp., a quasi-state agency. Del Monte moved its operation and the equivalent of about 200 jobs next door to the Gloucester City Marine Terminal, which is represented by an in-house union that pays substantially less than ILA.

Del Monte will sublet the site to Camden Waterfront LLC, one of many companies on both sides of the river held by the powerful Holt family.
