Piraeus Container Terminal, Greece

Recent reports from Greece have drawn the attention  of the International Dockworkers Council (IDC) to the poor conditions of employment and the violation of basic union rights at the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), which operates Pier 2 on behalf of the COSCO Group.

Antolin Goya, IDC General Coordinator said, “It is completely unacceptable that workers are being refused the right to freely organise in a legitimate trade union to engage in collective bargaining. This is a violation of Article 23 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

IDC wrote to COSCO PCT some weeks ago suggesting a meeting to clarify the issues but has yet to receive a concrete proposal for a date and venue for such a meeting.

“We will persevere in our efforts to seek a solution through social dialogue but, rest assured that Dockworkers around the globe will not stand idly by and see workers who wish to form a trade union being intimidated by their employers,” said Goya.
