Chittagong Port Authority Chairman RU Ahmed termed army deployment [to break the recent dockworkers strike] a temporary step, and said the crisis will be solved permanently when the workers’ logical demands will be met. He said the process for issuing ID cards among the workers has already started, while a committee is working on the process of recruiting the scrutinised workers.
Joint Secretary of pro-government workers’ association Dock Bandar Sramik Karmachari Federation Abdul Ahad urged the government to fulfil the workers’ demands soon. A dockworker said if their demands are not met soon, such unrest may break out again.
