The Packer Street Marine Terminal in Philadelphia has been closed, reportedly by a work stoppage by members of the International Longshoremen’s Association. Sympathetic shutdowns have been reported in Port Elizabeth, Newark and Howland Hook, NJ.

Reportedly, the union action is directed at Astro Holdings, the Holt Cargo division that operates the Packer Avenue facility. The union recently objected to plans to move a DelMonte shipping operation from Camden, where ILA members are employed, to a Holt facility in Gloucester City, which is a non-union operation.

According to the New York Shipping Association, longshoremen are refusing to cross picket lines in New York and New Jersey set up by union members from the Philadelphia local.
