Longshoremen remain on strike at ports in New York and New Jersey despite a judge ordering them back to work. Twelve ships waited to be unloaded in the local ports including one at the New York Container Terminal on Staten Island.

The New York Shipping Association says the action by International Longshoremen’s Association members is related to a protest over the move of some work done by ILA workers in Camden to a non-ILA facility in Gloucester.

Longshoremen said Del Monte was trying to undercut the union. International Longshoremen Association members in Philadelphia on Labor Day tossed pineapples into the Delaware River in protest.
