For the second time in as many weeks, Port of Long Beach authorities received strong public support Wednesday for their proposed $1.1-billion plan to replace the aging Gerald Desmond Bridge between downtown Long Beach to the port. The massive infrastructure project, expected to take five years, appears to be garnering far less opposition than other recent harbor redevelopment projects, which were plagued by protests and lawsuits due to perceived environmental and traffic impacts on neighboring communities.
